Murmuration refers to a large gathering of birds in flight, a cloud of birds.
With “Murmurations”, Lorenzo Naccarato proposes an original musical tour concept based on bird migrations. This autumn, he will embark on his first bird tour, a slow itinerant residency punctuated by concerts, from northern Germany to Senegal.
Murmurations was born of a passage between two islands. In spring 2019, Lorenzo Naccarato performed at the Jazz International Festival of Saint-Louis Sénégal. A few months later, he gave a concert on the island of Föhr, north of Hamburg.
« What I brought back from these two trips was the memory of birds. Birds I had seen on the banks of the Saint Louis River populating a huge reserve in direct line of sight of the stage on which I was playing. And those other birds, which seemed to be racing the ferry from Hamburg to Föhr island. I felt very close to them. Artists and birds both expend energy looking for places to live and sing. The idea of a new musical project inspired by birds took shape, and with it the dream of a journey: linking these two islands once again on a tour that would follow the same path and timeline as a bird migration. »
Murmurations is proposing to open spaces and times for poetry, and encourage listening to and celebrating birds. As Vinciane Despret writes in *Habiter en oiseau* (Living as a Bird): « tout pourrait bien commencer avec le chant d'un merle » («everything could well begin with the song of a blackbird»).

Titled Nova rupta – the "new eruption" – this album perseveres with the search for a cinematic music. The imaginary of telluric movements refers as much to the idea of a society in transition, at the dawn of a new eruption, as to the status of the artist seeking to capture and transcribe – like a seismograph – the vibrations of his time and environment.
« What I experience while improvising is perhaps a state close to that of a bird existing within a cloud. Each moment listening, watching, feeling and adapting the trajectory of its own flight. » Realised by Benjamin Harris, winter 2018
« I met the designer couple Carnovsky in Milan in 2017. The superimposition of RGB patterns in their wallpapers reveals itself according to the light that shines on them. It was in their landscapes that I chose to make Nova Rupta resonate. » Realised by Momentum, spring 2019
